Client Success Story

Sears

E-COMMERCE PROJECT

Challenge

Sears sought to capitalize on the success of its traditional Hardlines Web business (appliances, tools, electronics, etc.) and recent apparel retailer acquisitions to add an assortment of Softlines products (apparel & home fashions) to its Web business. The retailer faced daunting system integration, content management and user experience challenges to prepare for the launch of its online Softlines business. Led by a veteran project management and technical development team from Risetime, the retailer launched its Softlines business on-time, within budget and is poised to achieve its business goals.

Goal

Sears sought to establish a strong and persuasive cross-channel shopping experience that broadens its consumer base and grabs a larger share of each customer's wallet.

Solution

Starting with a disciplined review of business goals and system requirements, Risetime led the refinement of project scope to maximize the anticipated business benefits and minimize the associated costs. By designing the technical system components for re-use and high-performance, IT costs were held within budget and the system scaled successfully to meet the challenge of improving overall site response time in spite of increased user traffic and a doubling of items offered for sale on the site.

An emphasis on communication was the key to achieving on-time delivery of the project. Risetime led front-end design sessions with significant participation of Business, User Experience and Technical Development teams to support the sale of SKU'd items, which were not previously sold on the site. The technical development team worked closely with external partners to successfully deliver flexible XML-based Warehouse & Order Management interfaces for two new warehouses that were added to handle the increased order volume. Existing product content and pricing interfaces were also enhanced to handle SKU'd items.
